Bishop Bard replied that this is part of the work that we must finish before Annual Conference session can be adjourned. Gail Meyers asked a question about budgetary considerations of items removed from the consent agenda. Bishop instructed that there were none. Vote on the budget as amended: yes–536 no–97. Passed. LI 116 SUPPORT FOR ETHNIC PASTORS AND CROSS CULTURAL /CROSS RACIAL APPOINTMENTS: Tanya Edwards-Evans proposed the motion which was seconded from the floor. James Fielder proposed an amendment to delete everything following the word “pas- tors” in line 41. Variously seconded . Joy Brown youth delegate asked whether lines 44-46 were to be stricken also? Yes. Vote on the amendment yes–437 no–157 passed Bishop invited Rev. Dr Jacqui King to speak on the proposal. Lines 33-35 deleted by the chair due to inaccuracy. Rev. Dr. King made clear that the Office of Ministe- rial Excellence will continue to support pastors in Cross-Racial and Cross-Cultural appointments. Will work in conjunction with Congregational Development. E. Paul Unger, retired pastor, moved to refer to the Cabinet for consideration and implementation. Variously seconded. Vote to refer item as amended to the Cabinet: Yes–420 no–204 LI 102 EQUITABLE COMPENSATION: Ann Champion, chair, presented the item for a vote. Robert Anderson, moved an amendment to increase the percentage of raise for the minimum salary for full-time clergy in full connection under appointment from 2.5% to 3.5%.
