Illinois Great Rivers Conference 2025 Journal-Yearbook

COMMITTEE ON NOMINATIONS FIRST REPORT: Ken Miller, chair, presented LI 117. Committee chair Jessica Baldyga, read the updates to the printed report. Changes are reflected in the Committee on Nominations report in the Journal-Yearbook on pages 12-25 . Voting will occur on Friday. COMMITTEE ON TRUSTEES: Tonna Percival brings a motion from Conference Board of Trustees on Closing Churches—LI 300-313 MOTION TO SUSPEND THE STANDING RULES: Tonna Percival explained the role of the trustees and made a motion to suspend the standing rules to consider all items in LI 300-313 in one vote. Motion passes–yes 531; no–12, receiving the required 2/3 majority. Tonna Percival offered two corrections: LI 309, last service was held December of 2024. LI 313, line 7 says Crab Orchard and it should read Stewardson. Robert Anderson asked a question about the where the money from the closed churches goes. Tonna Percival called on Mike Potts for an answer. When property is sold, 50% goes to trustees and 50% to congregational development for new church starts. For financial assets, they can either come into the conference with a desig- nation from the closing church, although some churches spend down their finan- cial assets before closure. If the funds are undesignated, they go to trustees for the upkeep of IGRC properties. Roosevelt Sam Smith II offered comments designed to remind the body that some churches with more can help others with less. VOTE TO CLOSE ALL 14 CHURCHES: Yes–509; No–14 Bishop Bard offered a prayer of thanks for the ministries of these churches.
