1954, where he was elected a probationary member in 1954 and ordained an elder in 1960. He transferred to the former Southern Illinois Conference in 1964. During his ministry, he served the following pastorates: Trinity in Coram, N.Y., Newfield in Bridgeport, Conn.; East St. Louis: Aldersgate; Waverly; Pekin: First (Assoc), Lewistown, Leroy and Peoria: Forrest Hill, from where he retired in 1995. David is survived by his wife, Carolyn (nee Jennings); children, Lisa (Vance) Nagel and Steven (Lisa) Hurley; grandchildren, (Kristina) Nagel, Eric Nagel, Clarissa (Chase) Murphy and great grandsons, Benjamin Nagel, Juniper Nagel and Wendell Nagel. His parents, his in-laws C.A. and Blanche Reed Jennings, and his brother John (Linda) Hurley, preceded him in death. David’s family was very important to him. He officiated the weddings of all his children and grandchildren and baptized all his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed. As we bid farewell to this cherished soul, solace is taken in the memories held dear — the laughter shared, the wisdom imparted, the moments of quiet reflection in their presence. Though David may no longer walk among us, his spirit lives on in the echoes of his kind- ness, the warmth of his embrace, and the light of his enduring love. Martha N. Johnson 1916-2024 Martha N. Tennent Johnson, 107, widow of the Rev. Charles William Johnson, died April 1, 2024. She was born Nov. 9, 1916, in West Virginia. She married Charles William Johnson Aug. 15, 1942, in West Virginia. He died Dec. 31, 1991. After 39 months of active duty in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, Rev. Johnson received his bachelor’s degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College and graduated from Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston. He became a clergy member of the former Illinois Conference in 1950. The Johnsons served the following pastorates: Good Hope, Springfield: Jerome-Woodside, Peoria: First (Assoc.) and Paris First. In 1965, Rev. Johnson was named superintendent of Chaddock Boys School in Quincy, a position he held for 10 years. In 1975, he went on dis- ability leave and retired in 1986 and moved to Seminole, Fla., in retirement. She is survived by a daughter, Kay Sue Snodgrass of Des Plaines and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Florida with burial in the Pisgah Church Cemetery, Smith- town, W. Va.
Eliza Anne Jones 1931-2024
E. (Eliza) Anne Jones, 93, a resident of North Fort Myers, Fla. for the past 31 years and formerly of Peoria, the widow of the Rev. J. Wil- liam Jones, died Nov. 4, 2024 in Cape Coral, Fla.
Born April 11, 1931 in Moweaqua, the daughter of Evelyn and Blanchette Snyder, Anne was a proud Illinois farm girl who drove the tractor, prepared meals, and won Reserve Grand Champion for her steer at the Illinois State Fair. She graduated from Moweaqua High School and Illinois Wesleyan University.
