WHEREAS, the consent to close the Iuka United Methodist Church has been granted by the presiding Bishop, a majority of the district superintendents, and the district board of church location and building, and all proper Disciplinary requirements have been complied with. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Iuka United Methodist Church be closed and that the Conference Trustees be authorized and directed to transfer, sell, or otherwise dispose of said property as said Trustees shall deem appropriate, but in accordance with the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church and the Standing Rules of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference of the United Methodist Church. Stan Irvin, District Superintendent Financial Impact: None WHEREAS, the Crab Orchard United Methodist Church located in Williamson County was founded in 1878, and has had a long and proud history; and WHEREAS, the Church Conference of Crab Orchard United Methodist Church voted on April 30, 2025, to recommend closure; and WHEREAS, the district superintendent has recommended the closure of Crab Orchard United Methodist Church, and WHEREAS, the district superintendent has recommended that the property of Crab Orchard United Methodist Church be sold with the sale proceeds to the Illinois Rivers Conference pursuant to Article VII.D.1. of the Standing Rules of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference of the United Methodist Church; and WHEREAS, the consent to close the Crab Orchard United Methodist Church has been granted by the presiding Bishop, a majority of the district superintendents, and the district board of church location and building, and all proper Disciplinary requirements have been complied with. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Crab Orchard United Methodist Church be closed and that the Conference Trustees be authorized and directed to transfer, sell, or otherwise dispose of said property as said Trustees shall deem appropriate, but in accordance with the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church and the Standing Rules of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference of the United Methodist Church.
