conference who are deacons and elders in full connection, associate members, and those provisional members who have completed all of their educational requirements and local pastors who have completed course of study or a Master of Divinity degree from a University Senate-approved theological school or its equivalent as recognized in a central conference and have served a minimum of two consecutive years under appointment immediately preceding the election. [Editorial note: The proposed change of language in this paragraph related to central conferences would be changed to reflect the necessary updates should the Proposed Constitutional Amendment related to Regionalization be ratified.] Legislative Item 300: Church Closure: Browns UMC Subject : Property Matter-Resolution for Closure of Browns United Methodist Church Submitted by : Rev. Stan Irvin, District Superintendent Financial Impact: None WHEREAS, the Browns United Methodist Church located in Edwards County was founded in 1855 and has had a long and proud history; and WHEREAS, the Church Conference of Browns United Methodist Church voted on October 29, 2024, to recommend closure; and WHEREAS, the district superintendent has recommended the closure of Browns United Methodist Church, and WHEREAS, the district superintendent has recommended that the property of Browns United Methodist Church be sold with the sale proceeds to the Illinois Rivers Conference pursuant to Article VII.D.1. of the Standing Rules of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference of the United Methodist Church; and WHEREAS, the consent to close the Browns United Methodist Church has been granted by the presiding Bishop, a majority of the district superintendents, and the district board of church location and building and all proper Disciplinary requirements have been complied with. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Browns United Methodist Church be closed and that the Conference Trustees be authorized and directed to transfer, sell, or otherwise dispose of said property as said Trustees shall deem appropriate, but in accordance with the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church and the Standing Rules of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference of the United Methodist Church.
